WELCOME TO CRI-SIL
CRI-SIL was founded with a vision to cater to the diverse needs of customers seeking tailored solutions. Recognizing the limitations imposed by rigid supplier relationships, we aimed to offer formulation flexibility, allowing us to source materials from multiple “basic” vendors. This approach ensures our ability to adapt swiftly to evolving market demands, maintaining our commitment to customer satisfaction.
Beyond business goals, our company serves as a cornerstone for the community, offering secure employment opportunities for residents of Southern Maine. By creating a supportive workplace environment, we not only foster professional growth but also contribute to the financial stability of our employees and their families. We also endeavor to give back to our communities as much as possible.
In essence, our venture is more than a business endeavor; it’s a catalyst for innovation, a bastion of employment, and a testament to our unwavering dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.
Our Story
Quality is at the forefront of our operations.
We prioritize the delivery of high-grade silicone materials, meticulously crafted to meet stringent standards, without compromising on affordability. This commitment to excellence underscores our dedication to customer value and long-term partnerships.
OUR HISTORY
Our company has been led by founders Mark S. Stevens, CEO, and Michael J. Hirschy, President, since its inception. Their goal from the beginning was to create a company focused on quality, technical capability, and fostering strong relationships with customers, vendors, employees, and the community.
Specialized Silicone Compounding Since 1994.
Early Years:
Initially, CRI-SIL concentrated on tolling silicone bases for GE Silicones while simultaneously developing a customer-centric service model with strong technical expertise and mutually beneficial partnerships.
1995:
Recognizing the need to expand beyond tolling, Mark and Mike began developing custom compounds. They sought and achieved ISO accreditation to establish a strong foundation in quality management. Since then, CRI-SIL has maintained its ISO certification, embracing a continuous improvement mindset.
1996:
With rapid business expansion, CRI-SIL moved from a leased 3,100 square-foot facility to a 34,000 square-foot owned facility. This move enabled the addition of HCR mixing, milling, and extrusion equipment, and the expansion into RTV and LSR materials development and manufacturing.
1998:
CRI-SIL joined the IMMIX Technologies group, which included CRI-SIL (Maine), CRI-TECH (Massachusetts), and New Era Materials (Rhode Island). After four years, CRI-SIL separated to focus solely on silicones, while CRI-TECH was sold to Daikin, and New Era was dissolved.
Post-IMMIX Era:
After departing IMMIX, CRISIL invested heavily in technical personnel and equipment, focusing on expanding into LSR and RTV materials. Although we have the capability to produce LSR materials, our primary focus remains on one and two-part RTV materials.
2015:
Recognizing a need for silicone pigment and additive dispersions, CRI-SIL’s owners established KRI-Color, LLC in Sanford, Maine, to fill this niche. 2023: As CRI-SIL continued to grow and industry regulatory requirements expanded, we hired our first regulatory compliance specialist to monitor and respond to changes including REACH, RoHS, and GHS regulations.
Present Day:
These milestones have positioned CRI-SIL as one of the largest and longest-standing independently owned silicone suppliers in North America.
